Hakuba, Japan | 2022 | Architecture | Concept

The proposed design is for a 2,250m2 boutique ski hotel, located within the upper areas of Echoland, Japan – surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. Every detail of the hotel has been carefully considered to provide guests with a comfortable and memorable experience.

  • Our client's vision was to create a boutique hotel that caters to both a domestic and international market. The hotel features 30 spacious rooms, each designed to provide guests with privacy and tranquility.

The rooms are arranged across three, two-storey blocks that are strategically placed around the site and connected by covered walkways to the central clubhouse – the heart of the development.

The proposal looks to combine traditional construction methods with contemporary materials. The clubhouse is a two-story timber frame structure clad in a light Cedar. We strategically placed the majority of the programme on the ground-floor to allow for an open first-floor bar and lounge with panoramic views across the landscape.

The clubhouse is a generous, inviting space that offers guests a range of amenities, including a gym, lounge, boot room, restaurant, bar, and an onsen. The onsen is a unique feature of the hotel, designed to create a tranquil and calming environment that allows guests to unwind and relax after a long day on the slopes.

The hotel's design is inspired by the beauty of the surrounding landscape, with an emphasis on a natural material palette that blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
